GOONHILLY APOLLO 50 FESTIVAL 20 JULY 2019



Members of the GHS were asked to help recall the days when the Apollo transmissions were received at Goonhilly with 3 Q/A sessions through the day, and had the opportunity to set up a stand as well.

2018 EVENTS



HEAMOOR COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL , PENZANCE



CHEMISTRY WEEK SUPPORT 31/10/2018



Tony agreed to attend this event as a guest speaker to the whole school, talking about the Chemistry of Life, and how science can use Astronomy with our understanding of Chemistry and Physics to look at other areas of the Universe and to deduce whether life could exist there based on the element spectra seen in Starlight.



GOONHILLY SUMMER SCHOOL GHS SESSION 12/7/2018



As part of the Summer School week, Students were brought to the GHS laboratories for an introduction to a number of of technology principles used in Satellite Communications.

TRURO HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS EVENT



22/6/2018 "Women In Engineering"


A multi-school event attended by ~140 pupils. Lots of activities by a range of companies to encourage girls to think of a career in the Sciences and Engineering.

GOONHILLY WORK EXPERIENCE EVENT



13/3/2018 GHS 2 Day Support


A GES Ltd multi-school event attended by 12 pupils. Groups of three pupils were brought to the GHS Labs by Kat, the Education Officer to find out about Waveguide.

3/10/2017 "My Career"


A multi-class event attended by ~50 pupils. As a result of a STEM request, two GHS Members took up the role of Visiting Engineer.

A multi-class event attended by ~50 pupils. As a result of a STEM request, two GHS Members took up the role of Visiting Engineer.

Tony covered his career with a short presentation from his interest in how things worked at a very early age, joining the Research Labs at a Steel Works after school, then moving to the GPO Telephones at age 19 before finally transferring to Goonhilly.



INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS EVENT AT GOONHILLY 14/7/2017



A space-based event with activities to introduce pupils to some of the principles of space travel. Around 60 pupils from a number of local schools attended and GHS members were invited to assist with supervision of teams doing activities. Paula, Robin, Des, and Tony took part.

GOONHILLY SUMMER SCHOOL GHS SESSION 11-14 July 2017

Tony attended to help as one of a number of STEM Ambassadors assisting the Teacher with an industry view of product design and process planning with groups of pupils in two classes through the day.
